Olivier De Schutter will attend an international workshop on the criminalization of human rights defenders and social movements in Latin America. Several NGOs, civil society networks, human rights organizations and experts from the UN system have indeed expressed their concerns regarding the ongoing increase in the number of criminalisation cases as well as human rights violations against social, economic and cultural rights defenders in Latin America.

The purpose of the workshop is to share experiences in order to build strategies aimed at strengthening human rights defenders protection against criminalization.

The Workshop will be held in Brussels and is organized by the following NGO networks and international organisations: CIDSE, CIFCA, FIAN, the Observatory for the Protection of Human Rights Defenders and PBI.
