The Special Rapporteur will have an exchange on the challenges facing the realization of the right to food at global level. A special emphasis will be on the role of the Human Rights Council in the global governance for improved food security, including : (a) the added value of an approach based on the right to food and how this approach is influence the way hunger and malnutrition are addressed at national and international levels; (b) the relationship between the work of the Human Rights Council and the Rome-based Committee on World Food Security (CFS). The role of the Human Rights Council in addressing fragmentation of international law and global governance, with a focus on the relationship between trade and investment policies and the right to adequate food, will also be discussed. Mr De Schutter will introduce the COHOM to his work on the human rights impact assessment of trade and investment agreements.
